Several weeks ago I decided I was going to get into shape and joined our local YMCA. I’ve been visiting daily and am starting to see some of the same faces in the patrons and staff. This past week on several occasions a couple of staff members addressed me by my name. I didn’t really know the staff members but had seen them on several visits. When they addressed me by my name it made me feel good. I am sure someone somewhere has done a study about the positive response generated when someone says your name. Maybe it’s because it makes us feel noticed or valued. It reminded me of how important it is to know your customers and address them by name. This one simple gesture can go a long way in forming a positive connection with your customer, creating customer W.O.W. and who knows, someone might even blog about it.
